Summary

Just as the right software solution is needed to aid in disease surveillance, the right hardware is needed as well. For this solution, major cell phone providers donated over 1500 mobile phones that were capable of running the CommCare application. These phones were able to pick up wireless 3G networks although one problem was ensuring a consistent connection level across remote locations. These phones were paired with solar chargers and solar panels to overcome limited access to electricity.
