Topological Design Principals

Summary

OpenReblock is designed closely following the tenants of Topology (not just geometry). Topology has to do with shapes, and particularly how their dimensions and characteristics are preserved under the stress of continuous deformations. In the context of urban planning, topology allows practitioners to look at arterial roads just as we would look at human arteries--as complex transportation mediums that are maximized to most efficiently carry something (blood or people) across a medium. The thing about roads in slums though is that they have not been giving the grace of millions of years of evolution to design themselves. Instead, through tool like OpenReblock, and topological thinking, practitioners can transform a system of roads into its most efficient form.
